Luca graduated with honours in 1992 from the University of Bologna (Italy). After a one-year internship at the University of Padova (Italy), he carried out a 3-year research project in endocrinology at the BBSRC in Cambridge (UK) and was awarded his PhD in 1996. Following 3 years as Assistant Professor at the University of Padova, he moved to the University of Bristol (UK), where he taught cardio-respiratory medicine of the dog and cat for 7 years.
In 2006 Luca was appointed Associate Professor in Veterinary Cardiology at the University of Minnesota (USA). He moved back to the UK in 2008 where he started his own cardiology consultancy company, comprising a mix of private clinical referral work, telemedicine and post-graduate teaching. In March 2014 Luca has joined the dynamic team of specialists at CVS UK Ltd/ Wey Referrals, in Surrey.
Luca obtained the RCVS certificate in cardiology in 2001, the certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in 2002, the ECVIM diploma in cardiology in 2004 and finally a certificate in Business & Professional Studies in 2011.
Luca contributed to the veterinary literature with a vast number of articles, abstracts and book chapters. He acted as chairman of the ECVIM examination committee (cardiology), member of the RCVS examination board, member of the review board of JVC, and member of the BSAVA scientific committee.
His main professional interests include, but are by no means limited to, feline cardiology, exercise physiology, as well as clinical investigation and management of syncope and coughing.
